Things We Loved This Week

In this week’s Things We Loved This Week we share (spoiler alert)…the things we loved! Read on for our pop culture recommendations.

Some stellar news. Earlier this week, our Star Trek friends shared a sneak peek into our upcoming book on Starfleet, including a gallery of some of the interior spreads on StarTrek.com! We can’t wait to share the whole book with the world on September 7.

A happy little commercial we actually want to watch. Beloved painter Bob Ross is known for his beautiful landscapes, happy little trees, and making painting accessible to everyone. And now, he’s back to open a can of . . . Mountain Dew.

An old but good read. Back in 2019 (which can you believe was two years ago?!) Gizmodo published a great series reflecting on the 2010s, and Katharine Trendacosta’s piece on fandom going corporate offers a lot to think about. From the article: “Fans and fandom spent the 2000s fighting for legitimacy and proving their combined worth. And corporations? Well, they spent the 2010s learning how to co-opt fandom to silence critics, manipulate press, and make even more money.”

Watching drag queens watch things. Whether or not you’ve seen The Queen’s Gambit, we promise you’ll enjoy watching drag queens Trixie Matel and Katya watch it. Be warned: this series is a rabbit hole. Get ready for your day to disappear.

The Oprah interview with Meghan Markle. Enough said. ICYMI, there’s a good recap with clips via CNET.

We’d love to hear from you about what you loved this week, too. Leave your recommendations in the comments below, or get in touch on social!
