Things We Loved This Week #4

In this week’s Things We Loved This Week we share (spoiler alert)…the things we loved! Read on for our pop culture recommendations, including convention news and bug rankings.

Starfleet Is… featured in this interview! Robb Pearlman, aka our Editor in Chief and author of the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Is…, shared why Trek fans are the best and what Starfleet means to him over at The Portalist. Robb says, “I’m not a Vulcan, so it’s hard for me to not get emotional about this. If I’m honest, Starfleet, to me, means family. It means friendship. And it means joy.”

Visit us at POW! Con in New Jersey. It’s true: cons are coming back! The Con-a-Sutra illustrator J.K. Woodward and Robb Pearlman will be at POW! Con in Wayne, NJ on May 29th and 30th. Get your books and comics signed, enter to win original art from The Con-a-Sutra, and have a post-quarantine pop culture hang at the Villain’s Hideout booth.

Pop culture works of art. Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History is reopening today, and visitors can enjoy a painting from the master of happy little trees himself, Bob Ross. If you loved the Crazy Rich Asians film, you can also check out Rachel Chu’s iconic blue dress from the wedding scene!

Everyone’s favorite witches are back. In more magical news, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are returning for Hocus Pocus 2. It’s scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2022 on Disney+, just in time for Spooky Season.

The pop culture ranking we didn’t know we needed. Inspired by the Brood X cicada bloom making its once-every-17-year-appearance in the Northeastern U.S., The Ringer has compiled their definitive ranking of pop culture bugs, featuring creepy crawlies from Ant-Man and the Wasp to the Scorpion King and the Human Centipede.
